How Often Should My Child Practice Their Instrument?

One of the most common questions we hear from parents and students is, “How often should I practice?” The truth is, consistency matters more than marathon sessions. For beginners, 15–20 minutes a day, five to six days a week, is far more effective than one long practice on the weekend. Short, focused sessions help build muscle memory and confidence while keeping practice enjoyable and stress-free.

As students advance, they can gradually increase their practice time to 30–45 minutes a day—but the key is still regularity. Think of practice like brushing your teeth or doing homework: a daily habit that reinforces progress over time. Encouraging your child to play a little every day helps them stay engaged, improves their sound faster, and keeps their love of music growing strong.
