    R Douglas Riley
    Retired from: Northern York County School District

    Bio: Mr Riley recently retired as band director from Northern High School after 35 years in music education. He was the Director of the marching and concert programs at Northern since 1985. During his tenure the band received numerous honors and awards, including: superior ratings at festivals throughout the Eastern United States and Canada; featured performances in the Disney World Easter Weekend Parades; the Coca-Cola Centennial Parade; and appearances in twenty consecutive Tournament of Bands Atlantic Coast Championships. He has also been a concert band director with American Music Abroad’s Silver Tour (2003-2011). He has degrees from Susquehanna University (B MUS ED, 1974) and West Chester University (M MUS ED, 1981). He is an active performing and recording artist on both piano and saxophone, and has been an adjudicator at band festivals in both Pennsylvania and Maryland. Mr. Riley also performs with regional artists Into the Spin and The Ann Kerstetter All-Star Band, as well as Mechanicsburg’s The Singer Band.

    Scott Becker

    Bio: Education: High School: Johnstown High College: Mansfield University (Music Education); Job Experience includes 1/2 a year at York City School District teaching High School Strings, Keyboard Lab, and Elementary String, then 33 years at Spring Grove School District teaching elementary band/strings/classroom and middle level strings/choral/general music. In addition, scott taught /supervised the summer music camp for 33 years and served as High School Orchestra Director.     Carey Crumling
    Retired from: Southwestern School District

    Bio: Education : West Chester University BS & M ED; experience includes (1970 - 2008) 38 years Director of Bands – South Western HS, including Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Jazz Band, Pep Band, Pit Band, and Marching Band. During this time Mr Crumling taught Music Theory I & II, Music History, Piano I, and Instrumental Methods. Other accomplishments include :

    • 1988-89 HS Teacher of Year- Southwestern School district
    • 1994-95 25 Years Professional Contribution to Music Education (PMEA)
    • 1998-99 Director of Year, Cavalcade of Bands Association
    • November 2004 Inducted into Cavalcade of Bands Hall of Fame

    Jeff Noble
    Retired from: South Middletown School District

    Bio: A native of Hanover, Pennsylvania, where he received his early education, Jeffrey L. Noble holds a B.S. in Music Education from Susquehanna University and a M.Ed. from Penn State University. Since 1968 he has been an instrumental music teacher and band director at Boiling Springs High School . He has taught all levels of instrumental music as well as serving as music department chair of the South Middleton School District since 1970. After 40 years, Mr. Noble retired in 2008. Mr. Noble is active in a number of professional organizations. He has been an officer in the Cumberland County Music Educators Association; is a member of the National Bandmaster’s Association, the Pennsylvania Chapter of Phi Beta Mu (a national bandmaster’s fraternity), the American Federation of Musicians, and the Music Educators’ National Conference. Mr. Noble has performed with the Harrisburg Symphony, the Harrisburg Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band, presently performs with the Herm Miller Orchestra and the Buzz Jones Big Band, and freelances with numerous other dance orchestras and show bands in central Pennsylvania. Mr. Noble has served as an adjudicator and guest conductor at various festivals. In the fall of 2010, he served as an adjunct teacher at Messiah College teaching their Woodwind Methods Class.Mr. Noble recently retired from the Pennsylvania Air National Guard Band of the Mid-Atlantic after over 38 years of continuous service. His career began in the band’s clarinet section and culminated in his appointment as its Acting Commander and Conductor. In 2003 Mr. Noble was the recipient of the Phi Beta Mu Outstanding Bandmaster Award in recognition of his accomplishments as a music educator and band director.

    James Kain
    Retired from: West Morris Regional School District, Chester NJ

    Bio: Jim Kain retired from West Morris Central High School, Chester, NJ, where he taught Marching Band, Concert Band, Jazz Ensemble and AP Music Theory. For seven years he was also the Lead Teacher for the Math, Science, Music and Technology Departments. Prior to working at West Morris, Mr. Kain taught instrumental music in the Palmerton Area School District, Palmerton, PA. Mr. Kain’s educational background includes a BS in Music Education (woodwinds) from Lebanon Valley College and a MA in Music (conducting) from Trenton State College as well as study at Jersey City State College and Central Connecticut State University. He studied conducting with Stanley Austin and Thomas Dvorak. For ten years, Mr. Kain was a member of the Board of Directors of the North Jersey School Music Association, Region I of the New Jersey Music Educators. During that time he served in various positions including Band Procedures Co-Chair, Scholarship Chair, Treasurer and President. He was also a member of the New Jersey Music Educators Board of Directors for several years, and he was a member of the New Jersey All-State Procedures Committee where he was the Audition Chairman for several years. In the North Jersey Area Band Association he served as Audition Chair, Treasurer, Vice-President and President. He was Guest Conductor for the North Jersey Area Band Symphonic Band twice, and he was Guest Conductor for the Region I Symphonic Band. In 2001 Mr. Kain was recognized as “Master Music Teacher” by the New Jersey Music Educators Association after being nominated by students and colleagues and reviewed by a statewide panel of music educators. Mr. Kain serves as Chief Reader of the PRAXIS Music Series through Educational Testing Service (ETS), Trenton, NJ. He has been an active performer in the North Jersey/NYC area, playing most often for Dave Elgart Entertainment.

    Harry Kehler
    Retired from: York City School District

    Bio: Education - Lebanon Valley College 1964. Experience includes : 1964-1969 : York Suburban School district (Elementary / High School Instrumental Music); 1969 - 1973 : Sales, including representative for Leblanc Inc; 1973-1999 : York City School District - taught Middle School and High School levels, was Director of Bands (including concert, symphonic, and jazz band) at William Penn HS, Supervisor of Music from 1983 - 1999. Mr Kehler was President of PMEA District 7 from 1986 - 1987, is a member of Phi Beta Mu (Bandmasters Fraternity) and is also a Jazz Adjudicator. Since 1999, Mr Kehler has been an Adjunct Professor at York College of PA teaching a variety of methods and music courses to Elementary Music Education Majors

    Ken Husler
    Retired from: Manheim Township School District

    Bio: Ken Husler retired (June 2009) from the Manheim Township School District, Lancaster PA, following 34 years of service. During his teaching career, Ken served as Director of the High School Concert Band and Jazz Band, Co-Director of the award-winning Marching Band, K-12 Music Department Chairperson, K-5 Music Content Specialist, taught elementary instrumental lessons, and in 1976, began the Middle School Jazz Band Program. Ken is past President of the Lancaster-Lebanon Music Educators Association, District 7 of the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association, the Cavalcade of Bands Association, and has hosted a variety of PMEA District/Regional and LLMEA (IU 13) band festivals over the years. Ken is also active as a concert and jazz band festival adjudicator and band music composer/ arranger, and is very proud to be a part of the long and storied history of Menchey Music.

    Bob Long
    Retired from: Conewago Valley School District

    Bio: Mr Long graduated from East Tennessee State University in 1966 with a BS in Music Education and began his tteaching career at Brooklyn Park High School in Anne Arundel County from 1966-1970. In 1971 he moved to New Oxford PA and taught Instrumental Music at New Oxford High School for 1971 - 2002. Bob directed the church choir at the Hanover Church of the Brethren for 25 years, and is an avid trumpet player. Bob has a lovely wife Sharon, 3 children, and 7 grandchildren.
